Over the past week the nation’s attention has been directed slightly away to something other than Coronavirus and this is a focus which will continue for the upcoming weeks and months- what is this focus?

Exam results debacle aside…….This is our future generation, something that should always be at the pinnacle of our minds. Whether you are an employer seeking new team members for your business growth or a University student who is unsure on what the next steps are for your career in these unprecedented times-The Chancellor has released a scheme which will change thousands upon thousands of peoples lives.

What is this scheme you may ask?

The Chancellors 'Plan for Jobs' scheme in a nutshell will be targeting employers to take on those aged 16-24 through the KickStarter Scheme and a vast range of Apprenticeships.

We have such a huge array of talent leaving either school, college or university and with A-Level results revealed last week and GCSE results to follow this week- we simply must support our bright sparks into the ‘new-norm’ economy that we are facing due to this pandemic. What better way to support the nation than the launch of a new funded scheme?

A total of £2 billion will be invested in scaling up employment support schemes, training and apprenticeships to help people looking for a job. Young people, who are amongst the worst hit by the crisis, will benefit from this.

Here are the facts:

  • Businesses will be given £2,000 for each new apprentice they hire under the age of 25. This is in addition to the existing £1,000 payment the Government already provides for new 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged under 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan.

  • A £111 million investment will be made to triple the scale of traineeships in 2020-21 ensuring more young people have access to high quality training.

  • £17 million of funding to triple the number of sector-based work academy placements in 2020-21

  • Nearly £900 million to double the number of work coaches to 27,000

  • Over a quarter of a million more young people to benefit from an extra £32 million investment in the National Careers Service.

So ultimately what does this all really mean?

  1. The ability for businesses to pivot and grow without the worry of investing in new staff members

  2. Protection of existing businesses

  3. Further support for businesses of all sizes

  4. An on-going showcase of new talent into the national economy and essentially another step in the right direction for our current economy which has suffered due to the pandemic.
